The avant-garde jazz of the Julie Campiche Quartet has really turned our heads here at TMR lately. ‘Fridays Of Hope’ is another edgy, visionary track that wanders between a variety of different tempi and energies, with Campiche’s virtuosic harp playing set in the middle of the left-field jazz accompaniment that climaxes in an incredible drum solo courtesy of Celemns Kuratle. The track also samples a speech from Greta Thunberg: “I have sampled a speech by Greta Thunberg as a tribute to her Fridays For Future movement. Personally, this global movement organised by young people who unite across borders to speak with one voice has been a huge source of inspiration and hope.” This single, a follow-up to ‘Aquarius’, is taken from her band’s upcoming album, You Matter, which is being released on November 4th, 2022. -Dan Peeke.
